Luoyang Zhengju’s Youth Day: Lighting Up Rural Kids’ Science Dreams

Youth Day became a day of discovery for 120 left-behind children in Luoyang’s rural Xishan Village, thanks to Luoyang Zhengju New Materials’ young volunteers. Over 80 employees traded their workbenches for a makeshift classroom, hosting a "Science Popularization Camp" designed to spark curiosity and connect kids with the wonders of materials science.

The day kicked off with "Magic Materials Shows"—simple yet dazzling experiments using safe, kid-friendly samples from the company’s labs. A 26-year-old materials engineer demonstrated how thermochromic composites change color with temperature, turning a plain white cup into a rainbow canvas when hot water was poured in. "It’s like magic!" gasped 9-year-old Xiao Yu, eyes wide.

Volunteers set up hands-on workshops where children crafted their own creations: keychains from colorful polymer clay (mimicking industrial molding processes) and mini windmill blades from lightweight composite sheets, learning about durability and flexibility through play. Each child received a "Science Kit"—donated by Zhengju—containing magnifying glasses, material samples, and activity booklets illustrated by the company’s design team.

The emotional highlight was the "Dream Drawing Wall", where kids sketched their future aspirations (many drawing "scientists" and "inventors") on a large board made from recycled composites.
